Things to look for when finding hosts.
- Do they have SSH or Telnet avalible to you so you can make your own backups?
- This is a highly important feature, with out this you have no really good way to make a 100% backup of your forum
- Hosts that dont allow you to have SSH or telnet access should be strayed away from.
- How long have they been around?
- This isnt always an issue but 9/10 times you should see that theyve been around in the hosting business more than a few days. We recommend atleast 1+ years of service.
- Reputation
- If they have a support forum, join and ask questions, also see how long the averge problem takes to be solved.
- Ask on other forums such as WHT or vBulletin.com about them, many users at vBulletin.com will give you an HONEST feedback, do be carefull and watch for the host owners giving them-self a good repatition though. It has been known to happen
- Too good to be true?
- If a deal seems too good to be true, it probally is
- NO ONE gives unlimited bandwith and storage anymore, NO ONE.(unless of course going with colocation)
- Avoid free hosts. any host who wants to give you 50gb of transfer and 2 gigs for storage for less than 20 bucks a month isnt going to be around long, or will cut you from their servers if you actually use everything they give you.
