Newcastle overcome West Brom

October 29, 2008

Newcastle have finally got their second win of the season and find themselves now out of the relegation zone, although teams below them have a game in hand. Newcastle started the match very well with Martins coming close and Ameobi creating chances. By the 9th Minute, Newcastle had been awarded a penalty for a foul on Ameobi in the box. Joey Barton stepped up and put all his critics to shame by slotting the ball home.

With four minutes to go until they end of the half a flash cross by Habib Beye was headed home by Obafemi Martins to give Newcastle a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. Newcastle came out rusty in the second half, of which West Bromwich Albion dominated. They pulled a goal back, fortunately for Newcastle it only turned out to be a consellation goal as they took ever so needed three points.

Newcastle can now only hope for Stoke, Fulham, Tottenham, Bolton and Wigan to fire blanks over the next few games. If Newcastle can carry this form into their upcoming games, maybe they can finally get themselves out of the Dog fight once and for all.
